Sidmouth - Garden Centre of the year...AGAIN!!!

Plant of the Week - Osteospernum Plant of the Week - Osteospernum

Our plant of the week this week is the beautiful 'Osteospernum'. A very useful plant for tubs, baskets etc, and also really good in rockerys, and other areas that are difficult to water (like when there is a water shortage!), as they are part succulent, and don't need watering as much as other bedding plants. If in a sheltered spot they can survive from one year to the next, and are notable because of the way the flowers open and close with the daylight!

Manager James says "Our team has started a community involvement scheme that gets people involved and making a difference on things that actually matter to them!

We have just finished a garden make over at Tipton St Johns School (see here for pictures) where a team of 12 mums and children got their hands dirty with us and revamped a wild flower garden that had become waste land over the last year.

It's now got a new look pond to attract frogs, newts and over water lovers. Plus it's been planted with loads of wild flowers to attract insects. We will be going back in 3 months time to see how it's getting on."

If you have a project that Sidmouth Garden Centre may be able to help with then please get in touch with James directly here.

Wormcasts
Wormcasts

Worms are most active at this time of year, which is why you will see a lot of worm casts. Simply brush these cast away or collect the soil up as it makes great potting compost.
